A former stone barn in the rolling hills of south west France near Bordeaux, Le Duc was renovated in order for it to work not only as an occasional family home but also as a holiday rental. Working into the existing layout the interior was simplified to highlight the building’s stone, wood and rough plaster. Predominantly British, Danish and Dutch mid-century pieces were used along with contemporary Belgian bedroom items and Danish paper lanterns inspired by Isamu Noguchi. A strong emphasis on tactile materials such as woven cane, seagrass and rough linen was supplemented by hand made north African rugs, brass tap ware and vintage mirrors.

Designed by Andrew Burges Architects, the Bismarck House (named after the palm tree) was an extensive renovation of a standard Sydney inter-war semi. The interior brief revolved around simplicity, honesty of materials and texture. New and vintage furniture, lighting, decorative objects and rugs along with custom solutions to beds, shelving and cabinets deliver a calm but eclectic aesthetic.
